Working While on Claim: Who Qualifies and What You Get
Learn how you can combine part-time work with your benefits to support yourself while you transition back to full-time employment.
This program allows individuals receiving Employment Insurance benefits to continue working part-time without losing all of their financial support.
Who it's for
This is for anyone currently receiving Employment Insurance benefits who finds part-time work while they are still on claim.
What you get
You can earn money from your job and still receive a portion of your benefits. Specifically, you can keep $0.50 of your benefits for every $1.00 you earn, provided that your total combined income does not exceed 90% of what you were previously earning each week.
What it costs you
There is no direct fee to use this program, but it does require your time. You must accurately report all the money you earn during your bi-weekly reporting period.
The catch to know
The most important thing to remember is that you must report your earnings accurately. If you fail to report your earnings correctly, you may face financial penalties or be required to pay back money previously sent to you.
How to apply
- Continue your regular reporting process for your benefits.
- Track all hours worked and money earned during your reporting period.
- Report your earnings through the official government portal or reporting method.
