Public Library Online: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Access free e-books, audiobooks, and online learning courses through the Public Library Online service for all residents.

This service provides digital access to a wide range of reading and learning materials through your local library system.

Who it's for

This service is open to all residents. As long as you live in the area, you are eligible to access these digital resources.

What you get

You receive free access to a variety of digital content. This includes a large selection of e-books and audiobooks that you can read or listen to on your own devices. Beyond reading, the service provides access to online courses, such as LinkedIn Learning, which allows you to study new professional skills and certifications from home.

What it costs you

The service is free. There are no subscription fees or hidden charges to access the digital library materials. The only requirement is that you must have a valid library card to use the online platform.

The catch to know

The most important thing to remember is that the digital access is not fully remote from the very start. To get your account working, you must visit a physical library branch in person at least once to activate your library card. You cannot complete the entire setup process online without this initial visit.

How to apply

  1. Find your nearest physical library branch.
  2. Visit the branch in person to register for a library card.
  3. Complete the activation process at the library to enable your digital access.
  4. Log in to the official portal to start using the e-books and courses: https://www.librariesireland.ie/
