Who it's for
This program is designed for F-1 students who are graduating from educational institutions located within the United States.
What you get
You receive authorization to work for a period of 12 months. If your degree is in a specific science, technology, engineering, or math field, you may be eligible for an additional 24-month extension known as a STEM Extension.
What it costs you
There is an application fee of $470+ to apply. Once approved, you will receive an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), which is a physical card that serves as your proof of permission to work.
The catch to know
You cannot be unemployed for an extended period while on this authorization. There is a strict limit on the total number of unemployment days you can accrue, which is 90 days.
