MEBEKO Recognition of Medical Qualifications: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Learn how physicians can get their medical degrees recognized to practice medicine legally in Switzerland.

This scheme allows physicians to have their medical degrees officially recognized so they can be registered to practice medicine in Switzerland.

Who it's for

This is for physicians who hold either a domestic medical degree or a degree obtained from a foreign institution and wish to practice medicine within Switzerland.

What you get

Once approved, you receive a federal diploma or official recognition of your foreign medical title. This recognition allows you to be entered into the official medical register.

What it costs you

The process involves administrative fees ranging from 800 to 1,200 CHF. You will also need to provide notarized copies of your medical diplomas and official proof that you meet the required language proficiency levels.

The catch to know

The process is not the same for everyone. If your medical degree is from a country outside of the EU or EFTA, the recognition process is significantly more complex and often requires you to pass additional exams.

How to apply

  1. Gather your notarized diploma copies and language certificates.
  2. Prepare your application according to the requirements for your specific degree origin.
  3. Submit your documents and pay the required fees.
