Energy Price Brake: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Learn how the Energy Price Brake limits your electricity and gas costs by capping prices on a portion of your energy usage.

The Energy Price Brake is a measure designed to limit how much you pay for your essential energy supplies. It places a cap on the price you are charged for a specific amount of your electricity or gas consumption.

Who it's for

This scheme is available to all households.

What you get

You receive a capped price for a portion of the electricity or gas you use. This helps prevent your energy bills from rising beyond a certain level for a set amount of your consumption.

What it costs you

There is no direct cost or paperwork required from you to access this, as the adjustment is handled automatically by your energy provider.

The catch to know

The price cap does not apply to all of your energy use. It only covers up to 80% of the energy amount you consumed during the previous year. You will still pay standard market rates for any usage exceeding that amount.

How to apply

  1. Check your recent energy bills to see your consumption levels.
  2. Monitor your monthly statements from your energy provider.
  3. Contact your provider if you notice any discrepancies in how the cap is applied.
