Sick Leave: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Learn how to receive daily allowances to replace your lost salary if you are unable to work due to illness.

Sick leave provides financial support through daily allowances to help replace your salary if you are unable to work due to illness.

Who it's for

This scheme is for employees who are unable to perform their job duties due to health reasons and can provide a medical certificate from a doctor.

What you get

You receive daily allowances, known locally as indemnités journalières, which are designed to compensate for the income you lose while you are unable to work.

What it costs you

There is no monetary fee to access this support, but you are responsible for the time and effort required to send your medical certificate to both your employer and the relevant health insurance office.

The catch to know

You should be aware of a waiting period, often called a délai de carence. During the first three days of your sick leave, the state does not provide any payments.

How to apply

  1. Visit a doctor to obtain a medical certificate.
  2. Send the certificate to your employer.
  3. Send the certificate to the health insurance office.
  4. Monitor your account for the processing of your daily allowances.
