National Registry: Who Qualifies and What You Get
Learn how to access and download your official residency, birth, and marriage certificates online through the National Registry.
The National Registry is a digital system managed by the Ministry of the Interior that allows residents to access and download official personal documents electronically.
Who it's for
This service is available to all individuals who are officially registered residents. If you are part of the official registry of residents, you qualify to use this digital platform to manage your personal documentation.
What you get
The system provides access to various "Certificati anagrafici," which are official certificates used to prove your personal status. You can use the online service to download several types of documents, including:
- Residency certificates to prove where you live.
- Birth certificates to verify your place and date of birth.
- Marriage certificates to confirm your marital status.
These documents are provided to you online at no cost.
What it costs you
There is no monetary fee to use the service or to download your certificates. However, accessing the portal requires a specific digital identity. You cannot log in with a standard password; you must use either a SPID (Public Digital Identity System) or a CIE (Electronic Identity Card) to prove your identity to the government system.
The catch to know
When you download a certificate, it is not valid indefinitely. Most users overlook the expiration period, but you must remember that these certificates are only valid for 6 months from the time they are issued. If you need to provide proof of your status for a legal or administrative matter, ensure you download a recent version.
How to apply
- Confirm that you have a valid digital identity, such as a SPID or a CIE.
- Navigate to the official portal for the National Registry.
- Log in using your digital identity credentials.
- Select the specific type of certificate you need to download from the list of available documents.
