No Tax Area: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Learn if you qualify for a full exemption from university tuition fees based on your financial status in Italy.

The No Tax Area is a program that allows students with limited financial resources to study at university without paying tuition fees.

Who it's for

This scheme is for students who can demonstrate a specific level of financial need. You qualify if your ISEE (an indicator of your economic situation) is below a certain threshold, which is typically €22,000, though this amount may change slightly from year to year.

What you get

If you meet the requirements, you receive a full exemption from university tuition fees. This means you do not have to pay the standard costs associated with your enrollment in your degree program.

What it costs you

There is no fee to access this benefit. The exemption is applied automatically once you have successfully submitted your ISEE documentation to your institution.

The catch to know

While your tuition fees may be waived, this exemption usually does not cover regional taxes (known locally as the tassa regionale). You should expect to pay those specific regional fees even if your tuition is covered.

How to apply

  1. Obtain your ISEE documentation to prove your financial status.
  2. Submit your ISEE details to your university through their official channels.
  3. Verify that your tuition exemption has been applied to your student account.
