Annual Tax Declaration for Non-Profits: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Learn how religious associations in Mexico can maintain their tax-exempt status through the required annual declarations and filings.

This scheme allows certain religious organizations to maintain their tax-exempt status by reporting their finances to the government.

Who it's for

This is specifically for religious associations that are officially registered with the relevant government body (SEGOB).

What you get

By following these rules, your organization can receive an exemption from Income Tax (ISR) regarding donations received and activities related to the church.

What it costs you

While you do not pay the income tax, you must invest time and resources into monthly accounting filings and a full disclosure of your income once a year.

The catch to know

Being tax-exempt does not mean you are exempt from reporting. You must file the "Declaración Informativa" (an information disclosure) every year; if you fail to do this, you could lose your tax-exempt status entirely.

How to apply

  1. Ensure your religious association is properly registered with the relevant authorities.
  2. Maintain consistent monthly accounting records of all income and expenses.
  3. File your annual income disclosure through the official tax portal.
  4. Access the official portal at https://www.sat.gob.mx for more details.
