Student Finance (18+): Who Qualifies and What You Get
Learn how students in the Netherlands can access monthly grants and loans to help cover the costs of higher education.
This scheme provides financial support to help students cover the costs of pursuing higher education.
Who it's for
This is for students who are aged 18 or older and are currently enrolled in a recognized higher education program.
What you get
You can receive a monthly grant to help with living expenses. Additionally, you have the option to take out a loan with low interest rates to supplement your funds.
What it costs you
There is no direct monetary fee to apply, but you must have a DigiD (a personal digital identity used in the Netherlands) to manage your application. You must also be officially enrolled in a recognized educational institution.
The catch to know
The monthly grant is only a gift if you complete your studies and graduate within a 10-year window. If you do not graduate within that timeframe, you may have to pay the grant back.
How to apply
- Ensure you are enrolled in a recognized higher education institution.
- Make sure you have your DigiD ready for digital identification.
- Visit the official portal to submit your application.
