Passenger Rights: Who Qualifies and What You Get
Learn how to claim compensation if your train in Germany is delayed, including how much you can get and the time limits for your claim.
Passenger Rights allow you to receive financial compensation if your train journey is significantly delayed.
Who it's for
This scheme is available to all rail passengers.
What you get
You can claim money back based on the length of your delay. If your train is delayed by more than 60 minutes, you can receive a partial refund of your ticket price. If the delay is longer than 120 minutes, you are entitled to a larger percentage of your ticket cost back.
What it costs you
There is no fee to apply, but you must keep your ticket as proof of travel. You will need to submit your claim through the official rail provider app.
The catch to know
You cannot wait indefinitely to ask for your money. You must submit your claim within one year of the delay occurring.
How to apply
- Keep your physical or digital train ticket.
- Open the official rail provider app on your phone.
- Locate the section for compensation or delay claims.
- Submit your details and ticket information through the app.
